Description

This piece of work has been a learning experience for sure. I think I'm writing this more for myself to keep as a record to remember things for the next time I take one of these projects on. This idea started when one of my follow artist and I were talking about cross overs we'd like to do. One of us would draw and design and the other would color the work. I really wanted to see a crossover of MLP and TMNT. My idea was just that Dimension x is invading equestria and the ponies would get ooze mutation thrown on them. They're forced to do war with Dimension X.  Trying to follow the turtles clothing with more of the accessories and less practicality. I made sure they all had some belt and arm and leg accessory. Then to keep with the TMNT theme each would have unique and different weapons. I wanted everything clothing and weapon to make sure it felt like it was equestrian made. So that my little background lore that I created for this project.

This work I made was going to be for a CON that I was attending.  I had a time frame that I was working under to get it done so I could show case this. Now all the little problems that happen long the way. As I was working on this work I did not realize how much time it would take designing something like this. Most of my time was spent on ponies and weapons design and I did not give myself enough time  for the details on the for the background.  I really wanted to put a lot of more work in the background like putting foot ninja and Dimension X Rock soldiers. I did what I could and then sent it on to my fellow artist friend for coloring. after that I moved on to my pirates vs ninja work another work that I was doing for the con.

Unfortunately a week and half before the con my wonderful artist friend was having some really bad life challenges that came his way.  He could not find the time to do any of the coloring.  So I decided if I wanted this to go to the con I needed to spend some sleepless nights on it. I went with more in lines of coloring of MLP cartoon. In fact I really liked how it turned out. I'm kinda glad that my friend was not able to color becasue I like the MLP coloring.

This was the curve ball I was not expecting at the first day of the big con. My work was heavily criticized. I'm the type of person like to hear people's opinions that are good and bad. Normally I have a thick skin when it comes to criticism. I found a lot of people were trying tall me less of their opinion.  It was more along the lines of hatred and mockery. One woman went so far as to say I was going to hell! I think normally this would not be a big deal but I think of the lack of sleep and not good diet plus trying to get all this done right up to the day before my emotions were on high. Looking back on it now I think some of it was kind of funny but during the con it was not.  Many people liked it and said so, but from the over all public reaction I would say it was mixed half loved and other half hated it.

I struggled with sales on this when I was in the main table seat.  I had hunch  and I try an experiment on one of the days to see if sales would go up. I seated my friend, who was a girl, in the main seat to make it seem that she was the artist. On that day most of my sales were made for this work.  So I think my hunch was right.  People were willing to buy the art if a girl did them but when it was a guy there were not as willing to come up to the table. There could be a number of other reasons and to truly find out the truth. I would have to had people take surveys after each time a person pass by my table. Which that was not going to happen.

I think perhaps the  major problem was the thyme of my project was weak on the turtles side. I put more in the way of lore base of design than a visual base. If there was more of a comic that went with it I think people would have understand it better. So for fan art probably wiser to go for obvious visual elements of design. I also think I had my first experience of  how the public feels about anthro art.  It just all added- up.

Is really good but the girls need more outfit on them, light and protective and most of all useful for combat but not forget reflect their personality!
